| Every one
of us is skilled at something, whether it is in using tools, relating to
people, writing letters, sewing, taking pictures, drawing, coaching a soccer
team or arranging furniture. Many of these skills are transferable from
OUTSIDE the office INTO the office, or from one job to another, completely
different job. We often don't understand how important some of our
transferable skills are, so we don't mention them - a big
mistake, because successful job-hunters do.
In the last century, computer
skills were important, now the emphasis is on skills
with people - selling and managing. Many companies take people skills for
granted, and list only technical,
educational, or license qualifications.
Technical people often concentrate too much on their technical skills, at
the expense of their business and people skills. |
